"A gift of love and a caring thought for those who need it most."
What started as a simple Silver Award project for Girl Scout Cadet, Grace A has developed into a lifeline of love and caring for new cancer patients in the Tampa Bay Area.
Through the caring efforts of volunteer girls and moms, we have been able to take this initial concept and successfully maintain it for over four years already. Our annual mother and daughter events brings us together as one unit that sorts and assembles each of the items into goodie bags in a quantity that matches the needs of the community. Then once a month, we deliver 12 bags (typically) to Dr Cogburn and the staff at Florida Cancer Specialists.
There is genuine feeling of caring and indeed love that goes into each Pretty in Pink bag. We have assembled a simple collection of "treats 'n thoughts" to help each recovering cancer patient in the imediate post-treatment days of therapy.
The note of encouragement is something that is handwritten, with careful thought, by a mother or daughter participating in our annual event.
While they may not know the specific individual that eventually gets the note, they place themselves momentarily in the situation and identify with the pain and anguish that the reader may well be going through.
Days of therapy can be dark and lonely days and it is important to know that while you might indeed be going through it physically alone, you have sisters in spirit that are willing you forward and cheering for you each step of the way.
If you have time to help in our event or perhaps something to donate (in quantity) that you feel might have a place in our care bag, please let us know.
Email Grace at firstname.lastname@example.org with your thoughts along with some contact information and she will get right back to you!
